Summer Solstice is Sunday. Here's How to Celebrate Sun Day🌞✨

The longest day of the year deserves more than a glance at the calendar.

This Sunday, June 21st, is the Summer Solstice.

The day the sun reaches its highest point in the sky. The longest day of the year. The moment when light is at its absolute peak, and everything that has been growing since January stands fully illuminated.

In spiritual traditions across cultures and centuries, this day has always been sacred. The Celts called it Litha. Ancient Egyptians aligned their temples to capture the solstice sunrise. Stonehenge was built around it. Communities lit bonfires, danced, feasted, and honored the extraordinary power of the sun.

We don't need to build a stone circle. But we can still show up for this day intentionally.

Here's how and which crystals to bring with you.

🌞 Simple Solstice Rituals to Try This Sunday

Greet the Sunrise
Begin the day by stepping outside to greet the rising sun. Spend a few quiet moments outdoors; meditate, journal, or simply express gratitude for the blessings present in your life right now. It takes five minutes. It sets the tone for the entire day.

Make Sun Water
Fill a glass jar with clean water and set it outside or on a sunny windowsill from sunrise to noon on the solstice. As the sun reaches its peak, the water absorbs that concentrated solar energy. Use it to cleanse your crystals, anoint candles, water your herbs, or add a few drops to a ritual bath. One of the simplest and most powerful things you can do this Sunday.

Light a Candle
Fire is the element most closely associated with the solstice. You don't need a bonfire. Light a candle — gold, yellow, or white — and sit with it for a few minutes. Let it represent the light you are carrying into the second half of the year.

Set Your Intentions
The Solstice is the peak of the year's energy. Look back on the first part of the year and reflect on what has happened. What are you proud of? What do you want to call in for the months ahead? Write it down. Say it out loud. The energy behind your words today is extraordinary.

Charge Your Crystals in the Sun
Place your crystals outside or on a sunny windowsill this Sunday and let them soak up the solstice energy. A note of caution: some stones love the sun and some don't. Carnelian, Golden Healer, Clear Quartz, and Black Tourmaline thrive in sunlight. Keep Amethyst and Rose Quartz in the shade or charge them only briefly.

Spend Time in Nature
This one is simple. Go outside. Feel the warmth. Notice what is in full bloom around you. The Earth is at her most abundant and alive right now. Witness it. Breathe it in.

💎 Crystals for the Summer Solstice

Carnelian — The Solar Stone
Carnelian was made for this day. It carries the energy of fire, vitality, and bold creative action, everything the solstice represents. Hold it while you set your intentions. Wear it in the sun. Let it amplify the solar energy all around you. (We have amazing carnelians brought in by our local rockhound from Lewis County).

Golden Healer — The Light Bearer
Golden Healer is pure solar energy in crystal form. Its warm golden glow carries the frequency of the sun itself, radiating light, joy, and healing from the inside out. It activates every chakra, aligns your energy field, and fills you with the kind of warmth that the longest day of the year is all about. This is the quintessential solstice stone. Wear it, hold it, place it on your altar. Let it remind you what it feels like to shine.

Clear Quartz — The Amplifier
Place Clear Quartz in your sun water or alongside any stones you're charging on Sunday. It amplifies intention and energy, turning up the volume on everything the solstice is offering.

Labradorite — The Magic Keeper
The solstice is a threshold, a moment between what has been and what is coming. Labradorite lives at exactly that intersection. It heightens intuition and helps you access the deeper wisdom of the season.

Amethyst — The Intention Setter
After the sunshine of the day, Amethyst brings calm clarity. Use it in the evening to reflect on what you want to carry forward into summer. It quiets the mind and opens the inner knowing.

Green Aventurine — The Abundance Stone
The solstice is a celebration of everything in full bloom, including your own life. Green Aventurine calls in opportunity, growth, and the confidence that more is coming. A perfect companion for setting summer intentions.

🌞 How Tara Celebrates the Solstice

Tara is our social media magic-maker here at Soulful Abundance. She works with us on Tuesdays and brings her whole witchy heart to everything she does.

For me, summer is about being fully alive in my body and in the world.

I spend most of my time swimming and soaking up the sun. I host rituals with my sisterhood coven; we camp near sacred rivers and hot springs, celebrating the light together under the open sky. It is one of my favorite things in the world.

The Solstice makes me want to shine. In my own light, in my own way. I feel more motivated, more vibrant, more myself. I reach for brighter clothes, bolder jewelry, and crystals that match the energy — especially Carnelian and Golden Healer. Both carry that warm, solar, radiant frequency that feels perfectly aligned with everything the longest day represents.

And living here in Port Townsend by the sea? For this desert rat, it feels like heaven on Earth. 🌊☀️

I'm grateful to Jenn and the whole Soulful Abundance team for the constant reminders of just how magical our realm truly is.
