I Don't Usually Write About New Moons. But This One Stopped Me. 🌑
Today the sky is doing something I couldn't ignore.
I'll be honest with you.
I'm a full moon kind of girl. The dramatic brightness. The emotional peak. The release. The call to do a ritual and charge my crystals. That's usually where I show up with moon content to share.
But this morning I woke up and felt something quieter. Something softer. Something pulling me inward.
And then, as I was planning my blog for today, I realized today is the New Moon in Cancer.
A Super New Moon, to be exact, meaning it's closer to Earth than usual, and its energy is more potent than a typical new moon. And it's happening RIGHT NOW, this morning, at 5:43am.
So, of course, I had to write about it!
🌑 What Is a New Moon?
If full moons are about culmination and release, the dramatic peak of the lunar cycle, new moons are the quiet beginning.
A new moon occurs when the sun and moon align perfectly, and the moon is invisible in the sky. It's the dark of the moon. The quiet night. The deep dark with no illumination from above.
New moons are for planting. For dreaming. For setting the intentions that will grow and bloom by the time the full moon arrives two weeks later.
They ask one simple question: What do you want to call in?
🦀 Why Cancer Changes Everything
Cancer is the sign ruled by the Moon herself. So when the New Moon arrives in Cancer, the lunar energy is entirely at home and is amplified, pure, and deeply felt.
Cancer governs home, family, emotional security, roots, and the tender places inside us where we keep what matters most. This is the Mother Moon. Nurturing. Protective. Deeply intuitive.
This new moon is asking you to plant seeds not in your work or career, or your forward-facing life, but in your inner life. In the places that feel like home. In the emotional foundations that everything else is built upon.
What would make you feel more safe? More held? More at home in your own life? More grounded to your soul?
That's where your intention lives today.
🌀 The Mercury Retrograde Twist
Here's what makes this particular new moon so interesting.
Mercury is still retrograde in Cancer, and it's sitting right on top of this new moon. That changes the energy in a beautiful way.
Normally, a new moon is about forward motion; new beginnings, fresh starts, charging ahead. But Mercury retrograde says not so fast. It asks you to look backward before you leap forward.
This is not a new moon for grand launches or bold new beginnings. This is a new moon for revisiting. For finishing sentences you never finished. For healing old emotional stories before you write new ones.
Astrologers are suggesting something wonderful for this moon. Instead of writing brand new intentions, go back and read your old ones. Revisit your journal from six months ago. Water seeds you already planted rather than scattering new ones everywhere.
What have you been working toward that deserves more tending? What did you forget that needs to move forward or needs to be finished.
Start there.

Rose Quartz — The Heart Healer
Cancer rules the heart, not romantically, but in the sense of what we hold most dear. Rose Quartz softens the places that have grown a little hard from hurt or disappointment. Perfect energy for this tender, inward moon.
Blue Lace Agate — The Gentle Truth Teller

Amethyst — The Intuition Amplifier
Cancer new moon energy is deeply intuitive. Amethyst opens that channel wider and helps you hear the quiet whisper of what your soul is actually asking for beneath the noise.
Labradorite — The Inner World Keeper
This moon is pulling us inward, and Labradorite is the perfect companion for that journey. It protects your energy while you do deep inner work and helps you access wisdom you didn't know you had.
A Simple Ritual for Tonight
Light a candle. Make yourself something warm to drink. Get cozy and relaxed.
Open your journal and ask yourself these three questions:
What have I been carrying that needs to be set down?
What seed did I plant earlier this year that needs more tending?
What would make me feel truly at home in my own life?
Write without editing. Let the Cancer moon draw it out of you.
Then hold a crystal that calls to you. Breathe. Let the intention settle into your body, not just your mind.
That's enough. That is the whole ritual.
We carry all of these crystals in the shop right now. Come in and let us help you find what calls to you for this quiet, tender, deeply potent moon.
With love and a little dark moon magic,
Jenn 🌑
